May, 2025 in London: Day 3
Louise Bourgeois’ Maman at Tate Modern.
Day 3 in London and jet lag was now nipping at my heels. I woke up later than I intended and felt less energetic than the day before. I decided to keep my activities local and take a walk across Blackfriars Bridge to Tate Modern.
I’d been seeing Louis Bourgeois’ famous giant spider sculpture on social media for years but wasn’t aware it was currently on display at the Tate. So I got quite a surprise.
Andy Warhol’s famous Marilyn Monroe painting.
Very close by, I could hear a father introduce this painting to his young daughter by saying, “Now, I don’t why this became famous, but…”
I was tickled.
On my way to The Connaught.
Since I was tired, I realized this would be a good day to plan activities which could be spread out, allowing for a long, restful gap in between. On my way out of the museum, I made reservations for Jean-Georges at The Connaught.
Jean-Georges at The Connaught.
The restaurant was pretty empty. The waiter explained that it was the beginning of summer vacation and many families had left London to travel with their families.
I had duck, asparagus, parsnips, and I couldn’t tell you what else was on the plate. I tend to zone out when waiters introduce the menu. I’d rather be left alone to read the menu on my own. From the small portion I tasted, the dish was amazing but I was very distracted by a gentleman sitting directly across from me. He heard my American accent and used that as an opening for conversation. I’ll leave the story about him for another day.

A mirror selfie in the elevator and so ends another wonderful day in London.
