May, 2025 in London: Day 5

Day 5 went well enough even though I had a scratchy throat. I was intent on exploring London as much as I possibly could, so I ventured outdoors anyway. I went to Fortnum and Mason for some more family gifts and then wandered around Piccadilly Circus…

St. James’s Square

I ran into St. James’s Square and while I stood, trying to figure out how to get into the garden (it was closed due to a bank holiday), I noticed a squirrel getting unusually close…

A British squirrel.

At least in New York City, squirrels and humans are not on friendly terms. They flee in terror whenever one of us approaches. But this adorable, chunky, little tree urchin was quite brave… But, it occurred to me that he wasn’t trying to make friends: he suspected I had food on me. So, I dropped a few crumbs of my protein bar. It was a memorable, sweet, and wholesome encounter.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

It started raining and I was feeling feverish so I went back to my hotel room… But the clouds broke for a little while and I couldn’t contain myself so I made the 10-minute walk to St. Paul’s Cathedral…

It’s was actually one of my client’s suggestions to see St. Paul’s and I’m glad I did. It was lovely. As I was leaving the church, the choir was just starting to warm up…

As soon as I got back to my hotel room, I had no time to rest because John Lithgow was coming on at the Harold Pinter Theatre!

Harold Pinter Theatre

The acting was was brilliant and the first half of the show was a bit slow. But from this day forth, I actually vow to never see another play with such heavy subject matter again. I’ve been confronted by the horrors of life far too often to subject myself to a two-hour play about the horrors of life… Never again…

I enjoyed being a girl about town that night but I was so happy to get back to my room because I was feeling even more feverish than before. I returned to my hotel and prayed the Lord would cure me of whatever devilry was brewing inside my body. Because there was still much exploring to do…
