May, 2025 in London: Day 6 & 7

Natural History Museum

Day 6, I actually didn’t do much. Whatever bug I had was getting the best of me but I did manage to make it to Camden Market where I bought a curry and more gifts for the family.

Day 7 was my last day. Still feeling slightly feverish, I decided to go back to Kensington for the Natural History Museum. The whale skeleton hanging in their hall was the draw for me but the architecture alone made it worth the trip…

I still haven’t figured out if any of these skulls are real… I’d like to think they are, though…

New Bond St.

After the museum, I found myself back in Piccadilly Circus. I meant to go back to the hotel but the sun was peaking through again. I just couldn’t bring myself to go indoors. I checked my Google Map for my itinerary and saw that I was a 15 minute walk from Chutney Mary (another suggestion from a lovely client). As you can see above, my directions took me through the ā€œscenicā€ route, New Bond Street.

Longchamp on New Bond St.

I was in the market for an everyday, unassuming, and classic style purse, so I stopped in at Longchamp…

I finally reached Chutney Mary but they hadn’t opened yet. Yet again, I should have gone back to hotel because my tonsils were swollen and I was still feeling feverish but I was so close to Buckingham Palace, I could touch the gilded tines…

Buckingham Palace

It was a cloudy day so I didn’t really get to see the Palace in all its splendor… but then again, the front of the palace is not adorned in the slightest so I don’t think the sun would have made a difference. It was a bit of a let down.

However, I did get to see the guards do a bit of a military march behind the gates. That was very satisfying. I was so far away I had to stick my cell phone through the gate to get a better photo but I didn’t linger too long lest a sharp shooter use my wrist for target practice.

I have a theory that the military march is strictly performative for the onlookers because I can’t see the utility otherwise. If there’s any purpose, it must be purely ceremonial. The oracle, ChatGPT, did confirm that the march is ceremonial, done for the crowd. Fascinating!

Buckingham Palace was the perfect way to end my trip. I loved London…

Which is why I’m coming back in September! This time, I’m going to limit my sights to 2 or 3 per day and I plan to dine out even more. I’m thrilled. I’ll also be stopping in Amsterdam for a couple of days before I get to London so please feel free to make suggestions for my Amsterdam itinerary.

On this trip, I’m going to be very selfish with my time so I am prioritizing dinner dates and 2+ hour engagements.

Give me a ring.
